History
Soccer has been known for a very long time. The game is believed to have been played in China in 2000 BC, and later in Egypt, Greece, and Rome. A very similar game was played also in England, France, and Italy during the Middle Ages. The game developed its present form in England early in the XIX century. The first soccer club was founded in England around 1855 and it was named Sheffield Club. Eight years later the first football association was established - The Football Association (FA). New laws of the game were established the same year and they have not changed significantly to the present day.
The English Cup was initiated in 1871 and the following year the first international game was held between England and Scotland, which ended in the tie. Soccer would later move to the continent and then all over the world. The Federal International Football Association (FIFA) is the official governing and regulating body for the game. Soccer has been an Olympic game since 1900. The World Cup has been organized every 4 years since 1930. UEFA - the Union of European Football Associations - is the governing body of football on the continent of Europe. It also organizes The UEFA Cup, the Champions League and The European Cup every four years.
