Slot Machines
Game Rules
They are the most popular games in casinos because players can learn them
very fast.
You start with inserting a coin. Usally you can bet 1, 2, or 3 coins. Some of
the slots allow you to bet even 5 coins or more. Depending on the slot, the
coins may have the value of $0.25, $1, $5, and others. If you put 3 one-dollar
coins in the machine, your bet is 3 dollars. So far, so simple.
Next, you have to press a button to start it to spin, or to pull the arm. Now
all you have to do is wait.
When the wheels come to a stop, it is determined whether you won and how much
or whether you lost. Th objective is to get symbols like cherries, bars, 7's ,
and so on to stop lineup at a payout line and produce a winning combination that
is in a payout table. Each slot machine has its own payout table. For example: 3
bars on the line may pay 20:1. 3 cherries may pay 3:1. Some of the slot machines
have 3 or 5 payout lines. They may even pay for diagonal lines. To learn the
particulars of any machine, you have to learn rules of a particular casino.
Some online casino offer a so called "progressive jackpot". It means the
jackpot grows depending on the number of players playing the progressive
machines at any given moment. The first player who gets the winning combination
(usually 777) wins the entire jackpot. Only players who bet the maximum amount
of coins have a chance to win it. If a jackpot is hit, its amount goes to its
starting point and will be increasing with the amount of input from progressive
machine players.
Game Strategy
The Odds
The result of each spin of the wheels is determined by a computer program
that generates random results. This is true for both online slot machines and
those in casinos. The slot machines can be set by the casino to give certain
payout. For example the casino may set the payout at 95%. This means that for
every 100-dollar bet, the slots machine will payout 95 dollars. The remaining 5
dollars goes into the bank of the casino. This is just an avergage. It is
possible to win hundreds or even thousands of dollars with just one spin if you
are lucky.
Common stereotypes
This is a stereotype that a slot machine gives you the worst average in a
casino. The fact of the matter is that making wrong bets at the blackjack or
craps table will probably cost you more money. The odds of a slot machine are
similar to those of a roulette.
Another common misconceoption is is that a machine that just gave a big
payout will not do so again for a very long time. Statistacally every spin of
the slot machine wheel has the same odds of coming up and each spin is
completely random and has no relation with the previous one. There is no way to
predict the next spin's outcome and a jackpot as it is after thousands of spins.
Winning startegies
Most machines reward players for betting the maximum number of coins. For
example the jackpot at a slot machine might be 2000 dollars when two coins are
played, but might be twice as much when three three coins are played. If don’t
like betting the maximum on a particular machine, consider finding a machine
where the maximum value is at a lower level so you will feel comfortable with
the maximum bet. For example, instead of playing one coin on a one-dollar
machine, play the maximum number of coins on a quarter machine. Some casinos
offer a nickle machine.
Play in casinos that offer the best precentage payout. They will giver you
more for your money.
If you're palying a progressive jackpot, remember that you may have to bet
the maximum number of coins to have a shot at the jackpot.
