- History
"Flexible like a spring he took off grom the ramp and glided into the air like a bird. He slightly bend his knees and at the same time he landed on the ground." This is not a description of a jump Andeas Goldberg, but a commentary made by a ski jumping comentator afte the jump of Torjus Hemmestveit (Norway). The jump was made in 1879 and the person who made it made a tremendous impresion on the comentator with 23 meter long jump which put him on the winning podium for the world's record breaking jump. - Scoring
For the first competitive round, only the 50 best jumpers (the 15 best in the current WCJ standing and the 35 best of the qualification round) are admitted. The ranking for the 15 best in the WCJ standings is by name and can not be substituted. For the second competitive round (final), only the top 30 of the first competition round are qualified. They start with the same start number but in reverse order of the collective points score from the first competitive round.

Ski jumpers use heavy jumping Skis specially designed for this Skiing Discipline. The skis are their main atribute. The FIS regulations state that the dki length shell not exceed 147% of a jumper's height and their width shell not be wider than 11.5cm and 10,5cm at the bindings. See more > >
