A big sensation turned out to be rookie Oscar Robertson of
Cincinnati, who recieved the MVP and he led the West to an impressive 153-131
victory, scoring 23 points and 14 assists. on his way to the game's MVP Award.
Such a number of assists made him upstage Boba Cousy, who opened the way for his
teamamtes 13 times.
Bob Pettit of St. Louis scored 29 points, and the West posted
an All-Star history-making, highest-ing first quarter record , 47-19. The Eatst
was led by Bill Russell of Boston (24 points ) and Dolph Schayes of Syracuse (
21).

as a result of a good offensive play. The East led by Elgin Baylor Los Angeles,

Walt Bellamy of Chicago (Rookie of the Year) added 23 points. But the game's
high scorer was Wilt Chamberlain, (Philadelphia), who with his 42 points set an
All-Star Game scoring record (also 24 rebounds).

club ( San Francisco), he was put on the West team to confront Bill Russell of

basketball world by trading Wilt Chamberlain to the Philadelphia 76ers, Jerry
Lucas scored 25 points and received the All-Star Game's MVP award.
Oscar Robertson, playing on the same team with Lucas, scored
the most points for his team- 28. The West's high scorer ,Gus Johnson, topped
his teammate with 25 points. Chamberlain, playing his sixth All-Star Game as a
representative of the Warriors, scored 20 points and 16 rebounds.

In only the second overtime game in the 30-year history of
the All-Star, George Gervin led the East to its victory at the Capital Centre in
Landover. Gervin scored 34 points, 18 of which in the third quarter, when the
East broke loose from a 64-64 deficit. The game was tied, and at the buzzer it
looked 128-128. Then Larry Bird (Boston) and Moses Malone (Houston) helped the
East to get in the lead. in control in overtime. Eddie Johnson scored 22 points
for the East and Malone added another 20. Adrian Dantley(Utah) led the West with
23 points.

The smallest man on the court Nate "Tiny" Archibald was the
key playmaker for the East, contributing the most for his team's victory. He

play was especially effective in the closing minutes of the game, when the West
had drawn within 3 points.
Julius Erving scored 18 points, and Robert Parish recorded 16
points and 10 rebounds.
Paul Westphal and Dennis Johnson led the West with 19 points
each.

new fans. He demonstrated what he could do before he had received the most MVP
